Toys Give a Look at Old and New Charaters
The more movie studios tighten their grip on the details of their big movies, the more secrets will slip through their fingers. And you can generally blame the toy companies. Seriously. Those guys accidentally spoil more than anyone else in the business. However, this case is a little unique. There are no finished toys for ‘Star Wars: Episode 7’ but there are prototypes for figures that will be available next year. And someone has obtained a photo of said prototypes and put it online. Put on your scrutiny hats, folks. It’s time to over-analyze some toy sculpts.
First, here’s the image, which was first posted over at Rebel Scum. Take a good look and meet us at the next paragraph (and check out our robot):
Let’s start from the right and work our way left. First up, we have the only truly familiar face of the bunch. That is definitely Chewbacca looking, well, just like Chewbacca. We had previously heard rumors that his fur would be streaked with grey or that he would have a robotic prosthetic arm, but if this toy is any indication, everyone’s favorite Wookiee has aged fairly well.
Next in the line-up is BB-8, the adorable rolling droid we saw in the trailer. There’s not much new to go on, but at least we know know how big he is. Based on his moment in the preview, we could have guessed he’d be much smaller. Actually, the he appears to be about 2/3 the size of a normal Astromech droid.
Next in the line are John Boyega’s Finn and Daisy Ridley’s Rey. Not much to on here other than the fact that they’re wearing different clothing than in the trailer. Since these are their action figures, we imagine that these will probably be the outfits they wear for the bulk of the film.
Finally, there’s that menacing figure on the far end and although we can’t confirm it, we suspect this is the villainous Kylo Ren (who is probably played by Adam Driver but Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed that yet). In the trailer, saw this character from behind as he ignited his crazy new lightsaber, but this appears to be our first actual look at his frontside. The folks over at Indie Revolver concur, and have supplied this piece of concept art to back it all up:
Yep, that looks like a ‘Star Wars’ villain.
